What TrainSpy is
TrainSpy is a journey companion for National Rail travel in Great Britain: live train running, journey planning, and crowd-sourced information about ticket gates and ticket checks. It is free to use and does not sell tickets.
Estimates, not promises
Gate scores, gateline statuses and ticket-check signals are estimates built from public data and traveller reports. They can be wrong, and they go stale. Live train times come from National Rail Darwin and can change after you look at them. Always leave sensible margin, and always check station information on the day. You are responsible for your own travel decisions.
Tickets
Always travel with a valid ticket.TrainSpy exists to give passengers transparency about their journey — which platform, which gateline, when you’ll need your ticket ready — not to help anyone avoid paying. Fare evasion is a criminal offence in the UK, and using TrainSpy for that purpose is against these terms.
Community rules
- Report only what you actually saw, from where you actually are.
- Do not photograph identifiable people. Photos of people may be removed without notice.
- No abusive, misleading, or spam content — including junk gatelines or false mappings.
- We may remove content or restrict accounts that break these rules; automated abuse is rate-limited and blocked.
Your contributions
You keep ownership of what you submit. By contributing you give TrainSpy a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, display, aggregate and adapt your reports and mappings as part of running and improving the service — for example, feeding your gate report into a station’s gate score. Contributions are shown against your anonymous handle only.
Data sources and attribution
Train running data is Powered by National Rail Darwin. Journey planning is Powered by TfL Open Data. Station facts derive from public industry sources. These providers are not responsible for TrainSpy, and TrainSpy is not affiliated with National Rail, any train operating company, or Transport for London.
Availability and liability
TrainSpy is provided as-is, free of charge, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses arising from use of the service — including missed trains, penalty fares, or decisions made on the basis of estimates the app shows. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms as the product evolves; material changes will be flagged in the app. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Questions: contact@trainspy.co.uk.
